APTPI @ APP CONFERENCE. LAS VEGAS, MAY 1ST-8TH, 2010.
As usual an APTPI delegation attended the 14th APP (Association of Professional Piercers) International Congress.
Tropicana Hotel & Casino gave us hospitality for the second time, definitively taking the place of the historical Riviera.
During the week we were very happy to receive many thanks from the speakers that held lessons at the past APTPI meetings: Steve Haworth, Bethra Szumski, Brian Skellie, Dave Gillstrap, Elayne Angel, Pat Tidwell, Luis Garcia e Didier Suarez; some of them are milestones in the modern body piercing history.
Lessons considered most of the different aspects of our activity: from marketing to the studio look (to improve the quality of our service), from new piercing techniques to analisys of precious metals’ features, from legal aspects to first aid.
The Lesson about the history of Gauntlet was particulary interesting: Gauntlet was the very first real piercing studio, opened in the seventies in San Francisco, capital of freedom at that time. Paul King, Elayne Angel, Fakir Musafar and Jim Ward, as old friends, told us stories about their past, remembering piercings made on famous people of music and show business.
“Round Tables” have been a welcome novelty this year: sort of lessons held not by a real speaker, but by a moderator who suggests a specific argument to examine.
The “Tips and Tricks” round table gave the attendees the possibility to compare different techniques and to share precious information about “microdermal piercing” and “large gauge genital piercing”.
During the “International Meeting” round table, teams from Mexico, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Slovenia and Croazia, among the others, gave a report about their activity.
APTPI looks one of the most active association with several meetings and events, and the new born Slovenian Association has been welcome.
The swedish association too, ASAP, revealed to be very industrious: its 24 members organize many workshops to improve piercer’s prefessionalims.
A beautyful show followed the traditional banquet dinner.
Inside the Expo Area the most important jewelry producers showed the noveltyes of this year, most of all yellow gold jewels and ethnic style jewels, particularly pendant earrings made of wood or semiprecious stone.
